CATARACT
Cataract
What are cataracts?
A cataract is the clouding of the lens in your eye, the lens sits just behind the coloured part of your eye which is called the iris. Having cataracts will cause
- Your sight to become cloudy and misty
- Glare from light sources, difficult to drive in sun or at night
- Poor vision at night or in dim light conditions
- Frequent changes in your spectacle prescription
- Change in the perception of colours (yellow tinge)
This could affect your routine day activities including driving, reading….etc.
Cataracts can affect one or both eyes.
Cataracts are treated by surgery, during which the cloudy lens is removed and replaced by an artificial lens. This is a day procedure which is done under local anaesthetic with eye drops quiet often. There are many types of the artificial lenses and you should discuss this in clinic to see which one you could have to suit your needs.
